Sort your life out

Modern life is a never-ending list of things to do. It's hard enough to organise these tasks, let alone find the time to get them all done.

I've solved this problem. In our 5-hour Task and Project Management course, I'll show you how. The process is simple to understand, easy to maintain, and forgiving when you need to take a break.

Disorganised tasks are stressful

Step 1: Capture

When you have an idea, you shouldn't have to worry about where it goes. And you shouldn't need to think about how neat this idea is.

My process shows you how you can just throw these loose ideas in an inbox, and not stress about them. You'll see them again soon.

Inbox πŸ“₯ πŸ€ͺ NYC!! πŸ€ͺ do my backups work πŸ€ͺ laptop is dying πŸ€ͺ credit card $$ πŸ€ͺ dog is limping πŸ€ͺ council said no!! πŸ€ͺ new licence? πŸ€ͺ house insurance due πŸ€ͺ pension?? Step 2: Clear

Each morning, you have a really easy job: clear your inbox by throwing each messy task into a category. This takes about 10 minutes (for real).

Your 'inbox' is no longer stressful. The pile of tasks that not only aren't getting done, but aren't even close to being do-able, is gone.

Inbox πŸ“₯ 11 Me & others πŸ™‹ 12 Where I live 🏑 13 Money πŸ’° 14 Technology πŸ’» 15 Entertainment πŸŽ’ πŸ€ͺ new licence? πŸ€ͺ house insurance due πŸ€ͺ council said no!! πŸ€ͺ pension?? πŸ€ͺ NYC!! πŸ€ͺ credit card $$ πŸ€ͺ laptop is dying πŸ€ͺ dog is limping πŸ€ͺ do my backups work Inbox πŸ“₯ 11 Me & others πŸ™‹ 12 Where I live 🏑 13 Money πŸ’° 14 Technology πŸ’» 15 Entertainment πŸŽ’ πŸ€ͺ laptop is dying πŸ€ͺ house insurance due πŸ€ͺ credit card $$ πŸ€ͺ new licence? πŸ€ͺ council said no!! πŸ€ͺ pension?? πŸ€ͺ dog is limping πŸ€ͺ NYC!! πŸ€ͺ do my backups work

Step 3: Divide

Each morning, you give your attention to a single category. The tasks it contains (messy or not) are all similar, which reduces friction.

Your job is to tidy these tasks up, and make sure they're ready to do. This is where you assign dates if relevant.

This is another easy 10 minutes. No hard decisions.

Step 4: Conquer

When everything is this neat, you'll be amazed how easy it is to get stuff done! It turns out doing the thing was never the hard part.

Step 5: Routine

You'll end up with a really simple weekly rhythm. You are in control.

β€œI've taught GTD courses for 20+ years, teach Project Management to seniors studying CS and information systems, and consider myself pretty dialed in on productivity methods and tools. I loved the course!”

The course

Over 5 hours I teach a step-by-step method that makes it hard to fail. The process is robust, and forgiving. You can take a break without the whole thing falling apart. This works in the real world.

These processes drive my life and business. I've never felt more in control. I actually enjoy my todo list for the first time in years.

Here's the introduction. If you like this, you'll like the course. If not, you probably won't. :-)

The Workshop

In our 5-hour Workshop, my partner Lucy takes apart her own life and rebuilds it as a Johnny.Decimal system. You build yours alongside her. By the end, you'll have a working system of your own.

The course also explains every Johnny.Decimal concept from scratch. No need to read the documentation: just watch and learn.

Step 1: Scope

Before you try to organise something, it's really important to draw some boundaries. Otherwise you'll never finish.

In the first step, we define the scope of your new system. This tells you what you will be organising and, just as importantly, tells you what you won't. We start this task with clarity and focus.

Step 2: Discover

Next, the fun part: go hunting! Your task is to find everything related to the thing you've decided to organise. It's time to trawl your archives, drives, memories, that cupboard under the stairs…

This sounds daunting, but it's a chance to start fresh. And you're not organising anything at this stage. Just gathering it all together.

Step 3: Organise

Now you have the context you need to create some structure. Your system starts to take shape. Order emerges from the chaos.

Because we've done this methodically, you can build this with confidence. This system will keep you organised for years to come.

Step 4: Move in

Now we create some IDs and you move in. Imagine this: you actually know, with certainty, where all your stuff is. No doubt. No stress.

Step 5: Your JDex

At the end of the course, we spend some time telling you about your new superpower: your Johnny.Decimal index, or JDex.

Until now, you've never had an index of your life. People assume the system is about 'organising files' but it's much more than that. Your JDex becomes the place you work. It's transformational.

β€œI took all the productivity courses there are: Tiago's Building a Second Brain, Linking Your Thinking, etc. Each was super expensive and my life got maybe 10% less of a mess. Then I took Johnny.Decimal course, spent 2 weeks to integrate the system … 1.5 years later, my life is still organized and I'm finally in peace because I know exactly where anything from my life is.”

In our unique 'Learn with Lucy' style you follow Lucy, our on-camera student. She didn't know how the Johnny.Decimal system worked, so her progress and questions are genuine. Here's the trailer.

People like it

β€œAll 3 of my email inboxes are down to zero, all of my expenses are coded, my projects are not lost and forgotten and I, for the first time in my adult life, feel like I'm starting the year better off than I finished last year. I think this is because your Task and Project Management philosophy fully unlocked the benefits of the Johnny Decimal system.”

Jeff, Lovett Sundries

β€œYou've hit it out of the park. Your workshop is another level. You have set a new standard in 'learn at your own pace' courses in my opinion. Having Lucy as the student zero is just brilliant.”

Questions

What software do I need?

The system works with whatever you already use. You'll need an app to manage your index. I recommend Obsidian but you can use any app that either lets you keep a list of notes, or is a database. People use and enjoy Bear, NotePlan, DEVONThink, Notion, Craft, Emacs, and more.

It works the same on Mac, Windows, or Linux. You can even use it on your iPad, though setup is a little harder because of its limitations.

In Task and Project Management I use Things for Mac (I had to pick something) but the principles adapt to any software.

Where is my data stored?

Wherever it is today: I never touch your data. What I give you is structure and process. If your data is on your iCloud Drive today, that's where it stays.

What happens after I buy?

If you're not signed in, you'll receive an email after your payment is processed. It has a link to create your account. If you're already signed in, you'll get instant access to your purchase.

What's the guarantee?

If you don't like it, you can have your money back. No questions asked. You've got 14 days to check it out. Forward your purchase receipt to hello@johnnydecimal.com.

If you want to tell us what we could have done better, please do: it really helps. But no pressure. You can just say 'I'd like a refund'. If you can't find your receipt, tell me what you purchased and when and I'll look it up. (You should be more organised. Ha ha.)

Can I upgrade later?

You can upgrade from any membership level to a higher level at any time. Anything you've already paid will be discounted from the upgrade amount.

Is there a coupon/deal/offer?

No. You'll notice that we don't try to trick you with fake countdowns or bogus 'deals'. When you buy something there isn't another screen that tries to upsell you at the last minute. The price is the price.

Similarly, we don't do seasonal offers. So you don't have to think about when to buy, or wonder if waiting will get you a deal.

What if I need help?

Email me. I answer every message personally, usually within 24 hours.
