Definitions

  • Us ("we", "our"): Coruscade Pty Ltd, trading as Johnny.Decimal. Every licence and permission on this page is granted by us.
  • The Johnny.Decimal system ("the system"): the free documentation published at www.johnnydecimal.com/documentation.
  • Purchased content: the pre-built systems, downloads, and course material sold at www.johnnydecimal.com. Purchased content does not form part of the system.

Use of the Johnny.Decimal system

You are hereby granted a permanent and irrevocable right to use the system to organise your files and information, for any purpose, personal or commercial. No restrictions apply to the purpose or frequency of that use.

This includes commercial use. You may run your business on a Johnny.Decimal system, and you may sell a product or service that contains one. What you may not sell is the system itself: see the next section.

Redistribution of the system

For reuse, redistribution, or similar, the system is licensed under Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International.

You are free to:

  • Share - copy and redistribute the documentation material on this website in any medium or format.

  • Adapt - remix, transform, and build upon the material.

Under the following terms:

  • Attribution - You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the licence, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.

  • NonCommercial - You may not use the material for commercial purposes.

  • ShareAlike - If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the same licence as the original.

  • No additional restrictions - You may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the licence permits.

In plain English: share it, adapt it, credit us, don't sell it. You can make money using Johnny.Decimal; you can't make money selling Johnny.Decimal.

Companies

As an additional permission beyond the licence above, you may reproduce and adapt the documentation for internal use within your organisation, at no cost. Attribution is required. This permission does not extend to distribution outside your organisation.

The name

Johnny.Decimal™ is a trademark of Coruscade Pty Ltd, Australia. You may use the name to refer to the system, e.g. "works with Johnny.Decimal". You may not use it in a way that suggests we endorse you, or offer a product or service under it.

What this means in practice

  • Organise your business, or a product or service you sell, with a Johnny.Decimal system: fine. No permission needed, attribution appreciated.
  • Copy or adapt the documentation for your company's intranet or onboarding guide: fine. Attribution required.
  • Build and sell software that implements the system, in your own words: fine. Say that it "works with Johnny.Decimal"; don't copy our documentation into it, and don't use our name in yours.
  • Sell training, a book, or other content based on our documentation: not permitted.

Use of purchased content

A single-user licence is granted to the individual who purchased the content. It grants that person access to the pre-built systems, downloads, and course material they bought.

The content may be used by the purchaser as many times as required, for any purpose, personal or commercial.

The licence is granted to you alone. The content and downloads are not for use by any other individual or entity, and may not be shared, redistributed, or resold. If you know someone who would like this, please ask them to make their own purchase.

If you require multiple user accounts, e.g. for the Small Business System, please get in touch to discuss purchasing additional licences at a discount.

Thank you for doing the right thing

It took Johnny and Lucy thousands of hours to create the pre-built systems, course materials, support articles, documentation, and website.

It took Johnny more than a decade to build this system and acquire this knowledge.

Johnny quit his job to be able to do this. This is our family's only income. Please do the right thing. Thank you.
