# Life Admin MCP access now requires a Pro account

> You could previously use it with a Personal account, but this wasn't financially viable. Sorry.

I launched the [MCP server](https://johnnydecimal.com/jdhq/mcp-server) in August, and it's proved _very_ popular. So popular, it's a problem – because it costs me money to run. It isn't a fortune, but the impact of the extra compute on my hosting bill isn't zero, nor is my time to keep it all working.

Previously a [**Personal**](https://johnnydecimal.com/products) account meant you could use the MCP server with your agent to ask it questions about the [Life Admin System](https://johnnydecimal.com/las), and have it download and install your system. Those things now require a [**Pro**](https://johnnydecimal.com/products) account.

With a **Personal** account, you get the Life Admin System and the same [free open-source utilities](https://johnnydecimal.com/documentation#utilities) available to anyone. So your AI agent can still read your local files and JDex (augmented by my [skills](https://johnnydecimal.com/documentation/agent-skills)) and help you manage your system. It can still read the site documentation via the MCP server or by [appending **.md** to any URL](https://johnnydecimal.com/documentation/your-llm-can-read-this-website).

With a **Pro** account, you get this plus full MCP server access, API access, 20+ hours of video at Johnny.Decimal University, and soon the Mac app I'm developing.

This is much simpler and easier to explain. [JDHQ](https://johnnydecimal.com/jdhq) now means 'software and server features that cost money'. [Johnny.Decimal University](https://johnnydecimal.com/jdu) means 'all our video training'. You get them both with **Pro**. Clean.

A **Pro** account is how you support us. It's how two people are able to work on this full time. We keep adding value to it: it started out as the [Workshop](https://johnnydecimal.com/jdu/workshop). Then we added the 5-hour [Task and Project Management](https://johnnydecimal.com/jdu/taskpm) course. Then the MCP server, and soon an app. All provided to existing members, all for no additional cost.

I hope that's okay. Thanks for understanding.
